What to know about Chaos Rising

Chaos Rising — Early Details on the 4th Mega Evolution Expansion

Mega Evolution: Chaos Rising is scheduled for release on May 22, 2026. The English release of this set follows the Japanese release under the name Ninja Spinner, a nod to Mega Greninja ex. While full card lists and product details have not yet been revealed, Chaos Rising has been positioned as a thematic follow-up to Perfect Order (note the intentional contrast between the two set names), focusing on aggressive playstyles and disruptive mechanics.

Set Status and Release Window

So far, we know the set will contain over 120 cards, including 20 Trainer cards and over 35 special illustration cards. This set has also been confirmed to include Mega Greninja ex, Mega Pyroar ex, Mega Floette ex, and Mega Dragalge ex. Chaos Rising is not a special set, but it has not yet been confirmed whether standard booster boxes will be included.

Set Theme

Chaos Rising is presented as a deliberate contrast to Perfect Order. Where that set emphasizes structure and balance, Chaos Rising leans toward pressure, disruption, and momentum-based gameplay. Mega Evolution Pokemon ex follow a high-risk, high-reward structure: when defeated, these Pokemon award 3 Prize cards instead of the usual 2.

One card that has competitors talking is Special Red Card. Special Red Card can only be played if your opponent has 3 or fewer Prize cards remaining and causes opponents to shuffle their hand into their deck and get 3 new cards. This type of late-game reset can significantly disrupt momentum and prevent an opponent from closing out the game.

Another major theme of Chaos Rising is the strengthening of Poison mechanics. Particularly via Mega Dragalge ex, which can remove Tools and Special Energy while inflicting Poison damage.

Competitive Context

To evaluate Chaos Rising in competitive play, it's important to consider the upcoming Standard rotation, which becomes active for in-person play on April 10, 2026, which is before this set's release. The post-rotation card pool excludes cards with the letters "G" and earlier. (Note that a card's legal status is based on this regulation mark, not its expansion -- meaning cards from the same set can have different legal statuses.

Community Reaction So Far & Conclusion

It's still early, but buzz so far suggests greater interest in this set relative to Perfect Order. Collectors are particularly excited to see Mega Greninja ex take the spotlight.
